What is pet insurance?
We all love our pets, but their care can become expensive, especially for certain animals. Pet insurance helps with surgeries, medications, checkups, and routine operations. A general policy can cover emergency visits, dental, vaccines, and flea preventions as well.
What isn't covered?
There are a couple things which aren't covered in usual policies, including pre-existing conditions for some breeds (breathing issues for bulldogs), cosmetic changes, and pregnancy costs for breeders.
What else should I think about for pet insurance?
The Limit You Select
The limits that you can select include $2500, $5000, $10,000 or $15,000. These can also include preventative care.
For dogs, the breed
Every breed comes with its own problems. Look into the breed of your dog so that you can understand what kind of regular costs would be associated with it.
What if my pet isn't a cat or dog?
Currently, pet insurance is limited only to cats and dogs. If you have a horse that you would like to insure, there is specialty insurance for equines.
